“My Time at Saint Albans Health and Rehab: On March 20, 2019 I fell on a cruise ship and crushed my fibula in my left ankle. Following my surgery on March 30th, I was fortunate on April 4th to obtain a room at Saint Albans Health and Rehab. My leg was in a cast and I was ultimately 9 weeks non-weight bearing. Having never broken a bone (and I am 66 years old) I became very depressed. However, thanks to the dedication of the rehab staff, LNAs, and nurses- my spirits were lifted. The physical and occupational therapists helped me learn to function on one leg. I learned hop on one leg for several feet at a time. I learned how to get dressed and in and out of bed by swiveling and hopping. Two weeks ago I was finally able to wear a walking boot. Since then the physical therapists and occupational therapists had me walking with the walker 400 feet at a time and preparing food in the rehab kitchen. I leave for home today, June 19, 2019. I am so grateful for the dedicated staff that assisted me in my recovery. I also need to do a big shout out to the other residents that became close friends and welcomed me as part of the Saint Albans Health and Rehab family. I have been blessed to know everyone and will never forget them. I highly recommend Saint Albans Health and Rehab to anyone recovering from an injury or illness.”

On 4/2/2021 Mark Maskell was diagnosed with COVID-19. Throughout the next couple of months, Mark remained hospitalized, receiving treatment for COVID-19 Pneumonia. Throughout his hospital stay, he required intubation, needed pressure therapy, and high-flow oxygen. Fast forward to 6/10/21 and Mark admitted to St. Albans Health & Rehab. During his stay, our Respiratory Therapist, Taylor, worked heavily with Mark to regulate his oxygen needs and prepare for a safe and successful discharge home. While at the facility, Mark was down to 4-10 LPM of oxygen, much lower than just week’s before. Taylor was able to educate him on safe oxygen use, how to manage his oxygen at home and set him up with the needed oxygen and supplies for his discharge. Though respiratory services were critical to his success, our Occupational Therapist, Jenny, was able to work directly with Mark on his ADL’s while utilizing the oxygen. A combination of respiratory and occupational services has gotten Mark back on track and ready to discharge home safely on 6/19/21.
\r\n\r\nOn 7/19/2021, Frances Casey was admitted to St. Albans Health & Rehab from Northwestern Medical Center after a fall at home. During her time at St. Albans Health & Rehab, she received both physical therapy and occupational therapy. She worked on strengthening, balance, activity tolerance and use of adaptive equipment. In addition, she was an active participant in group therapy, occurring almost every day during her stay. The participation in the group therapy was a critical piece to her success and ability to return home quickly. Though Ms. Casey wanted to return home just one week into therapy services, our Director of Rehab, Leslie was able to speak with her directly and review her progress thus far, helping her to realize that she likely needed some additional therapy before returning home as we wanted to ensure that she was going to have the best outcome possible. With this additional therapy, she was able to become stronger than ever before, ensuring she would have a successful discharge to home. On 7/31/2021, she returned to home where she lives independently and has remained strong and able to actively participate in all of her regular activities of daily living.
